Help with Historical Research

Arthur William Gillingham (Ed.: presumed circa 1940s/early 1950s)

A historical researcher in Gillingham purchased two WWII Royal Navy medals and a small collection of photographs earlier this year. He would like to find out more about the recipient of the medals – an ‘Arthur William Gillingham‘. He has found two possible candidates, both born in Dorset in 1918.

He believes the most likely was from Okeford Fitzpaine since he does not seem to have left descendants. This would explain how the medals and photographs came to be sold.

From his obituary he believes AW Gillingham lived at Netherway Cottages, Lower
Street, Okeford Fitzpaine until his death in 1986.

If you recognise Arthur / William / Bill and would like to help please contact Robin Clay who will connect you with the researcher.
